This is an collaborative project initiated by Kurt and Helge after IST 2006 Helsinki. We are inviting innovative brains from Europe, EU countries and globally to work on this collaborative document. Being here should be a global an essential collaboration experience, a free and creative experiment to every InnoStar team member. Ahmed Razib joined the team 3 Dec 2006.

There was a time, in the distant past, when technology mainly took the form of simple tools, each used for a particular purpose. But technology gets more complicated as it advances. The simple tools become more elaborate, and they begin to merge into ever more complex systems. Today, a lot of the products that companies produce are components of much larger systems, and the success of those products can hinge as much on the other components of the systems as on their own particular qualities. Making sense of the systems and, in particular, how they're likely to evolve can give a company a big advantage over less insightful competitors. But making sense of technological systems is hard.

FP 7 Strategies for Leadership
The IST 2006 Conference Programme looks at one of the central questions facing European competitiveness today from two different angles. IST 2006 is being held as the Commission launches FP7, its Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development (see the EU's IST research programmes), so one of the main themes of the event will be FP7's ICT objectives and procedures.

The EU has responded to the increased need for coordinated and focussed research with the Seventh Research Framework Programme, due to be voted by the European Parliament on 30 November, for final adoption by the Council of Ministers on 5 December. The European Commission is making available information to help guide the press through this comprehensive programme, the biggest yet at European level.
European Research 2007 - 2013
In today's EU, however, ICT research does not take place in isolation. Reflecting the central importance ICTs play in stimulating innovation and competitiveness in all areas of industry, the conference programme will also contribute to the creation of a virtuous cycle between ICT research innovation and socio-economic benefits.

This is the Kurt and Helge initiated" Innovation Society" strategy paper, an online collaboration effort, a work in progress, we're updating the content on a continuous basis. This is an open document and we will ask for more collaborators to participate when we start to get some structure to our approach. 29 November 2006: "This looks like a very functional platform. We're updating the content on a continuous basis and there is a feeling that this is really going to add some value to collaboration," writes Helge Keitel.

Helge came to Kurre's office with a buss full of VIPs from Itä-Uusimaa (Southeastern Finland) and Kurt was profiled as a prototype distance worker and online collaborator that had been using modern tools ICT tools since early 70's

Helge has introduced and expanded the use of Collaborative tools in numerous micro companies and there is an emerging infrastructure of micro companies expanding their marketing and collaboration reach with the help of low-cost and easy to use communication tools

Digital Villages is a historical process that now has a 2nd life on a global scale

Digital Villages started from a hyper-local perspective: Wirby the Global Village TV-program 1999 as starting point and Helge's ("Wiirilä Werkossa Wiikottain" was a blog before blogs about a small village in Southeastern Finland and was started late 1996)

The Elevator takes the best common suggestions f.ex. to the Commission's floor

The Personal EU Academy serves all Personal EU teams virtually and face-to-face - helping the clumsy hierarchic society turn into an innovative human centric "EUnal" society.

A good "official" Personal EU pilot system could easily become 100 EU10 user teams within a couple of months, 5000 user teams within one year and 100 000 user teams within 5 years. The development speed of the online translation tool is a critical factor for reaching f.ex. one million Personal EU teams and more. One million Personal EU25 teams cover just 5 % of the EU population - tomorrows lifestyle and a fascinating tool like Personal EU could easily grow the percentage to 30-50.

Inviting individuals from different EU countries to develop this collaborative document would turn it into an union-wide "living lab" and "projectable test bed" towards a Personal EU era.

Local WiFi Community Building Example
FON, the largest WiFi community in the world, is powered by the belief that the Internet should be everywhere there are people. Building a network from the ground up, FON members willingly share their wireless access at home. In return, they enjoy free WiFi and VOIP wherever they find another member's access point. In this example, entrepreneur Ejovi Nuwere explains the energy behind the FON movement for "everyone, everywhere" Internet access, driven by the explosion of ubiquitous bandwidth and WiFi-enabled devices.

FP7 and CONSEN
CONSEN : With its strengths in communication equipment, devices, networks and eServices, Europe is well placed in the world-wide race to define and develop the network and service infrastructures of the future. These will generate new innovative products, business models and economic opportunities with new integrated applications, whilst reducing operational expenditures.
The challenge is to deliver the next generation of ubiquitous and converged network and service infrastructures for communication, computing and media. This entails overcoming the scalability, flexibility, dependability and security bottlenecks, as todayÔÇÖs network and service architectures are primarily static and able to support only a limited number of devices, service features and limited confidence.
Such new infrastructures will permit the emergence of a large variety of business models using dynamic and seamless end-to-end composability of resources across a multiplicity of devices, networks, providers and service domains.

IST 2006 included a high-level conference conference, an Exhibition of cutting edge research results from across Europe and a programme of networking sessions and workshops, with the exhibition and networking programmes defined by participants via this website.
The Conference Programme opened with a first day devoted to high-level policy discussions on what governments and public policy can do to help ICT contribute to an innovative Europe, with Days Two and Three are devoted to the Seventh Framework Programme and other topics surrounding European research and innovation. The Exhibition and Networking Programmes, meanwhile, were defined following proposals by companies, research institutions and other organisations from across Europe via this website.
